Alan Hutton’s performance against Brentford left a lot to be desired on Wednesday night, with Aston Villa suffering a 1-0 defeat at Griffin Park. The 34-year-old made the fewest amount of tackles (1), interceptions (0) and won the least amount of aerial duels (1) in Villa’s defence, and no player gave away more fouls than Hutton (2) on the night.

He made 28 passes with a 78.6% completion ratio and didn’t do much in the final third – one chance created and one cross made. Hutton made five clearances and blocked a shot against the Bees, but it was far from a vintage showing from the Scotland international and supporters took to social media to hammer his performance.

Hutton is out of contract this summer and is unlikely to be offered an extension. The right-back has been a terrific servant for Villa since joining from Tottenham in 2011, making 199 appearances in all competitions, but it might be the right time to move him on when the season comes to a close.

He’s featured in all 30 of Villa’s Championship games this campaign, but the Midlands outfit will have James Bree and new signing Frederic Guilbert who can play right-back for 2019/20.
