With Talksport continuing their theme of trying to sell key Aston Villa trio Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Tyrone Mings from under us in the January window as their obsession with Manchester United continues, following the battling victory against Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend, head coach Dean Smith has now addressed the growing speculation, given how all three have begun impressing at Premier League level.
We all know the rumours are invented and are being self fed in the media, and we’re simply going to have to get used to all this nonsense as the January window nears, but in quotes carried by Four Four Two from his post-game press conference, Smith himself certainly doesn’t sound that worried as he answered a direct question about John McGinn.
“The big clubs can come calling but they’ll get a short, swift reply! He’s a player we want here at Aston Villa. His value shot up from the moment he stepped out onto the Villa Park pitch and showed just what a player he is. He has an unbelievable energy level and a big, big heart, but people don’t see the technical side of it as well – he’s got that in abundance.”
Players come and go but having made so many ‘statements’ in how they have gone about their business so far, I really can’t see Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens taking such a backward step that the sale of either of the trio would be in the next window.
Key players in key positions as we continue to build and grow, there’s no reason to accept a quick profit and sale, it just doesn’t make sense – and we don’t need the cash anyway with our improved Financial Fair Play position and wealth.
