With Aston Villa gearing up for our midweek Everton clash and only four games remaining in the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, head coach Dean Smith gave a brief insight into the clubs’ plans for the summer transfer window when he met with the media for his pre-game press conference.

Whilst he understandably didn’t drop any names or discuss positions, most fans seem to be on board with where we need to look to strengthen this summer and we are all looking for the club to improve our depth by adding starting XI options, so others can move to the bench as options to help pad the squad out.

Following his press conference, Tom Ross took to social media to tweet out the following, and it seems we have sensibly already done the legwork and research on our preferred targets.

Given our preferred way of doing transfer business these days, in terms of focusing on players who can develop and grow their value with us, fans will naturally read into ‘…should excite the fans’ as we all know what type of targets we’d like to be in for ahead of the next campaign, so we can take another step to the next level.

Just have to let it play out in the press and they are already in overdrive in throwing names out there and speculating at the potential sums of money we will spend again – but if recent windows are anything to go off we can easily dismiss 99% of the links, as short of Ollie Watkins, our signings haven’t exactly been obvious for a while.
