Sir Dennis Of Mortimer has been talking to Mat Kendrick at The Birmingham Mail

The legendary Villa skipper said they need strong leadership and the players have to be sorted out.

He calls, fro “some leadership on the football field, strong players with strong characters fighting for each other and for the team.”

And points to the many drifters who don`t care one jot for the Villa, just for themselves….

“There`s too many players looking after themselves. I just feel there are too many individuals playing their own game.”

Wish Dennis was used more at Villa to be honest, I know his comments in regards to Petrov didn`t go down well but he is Villa through and through.

And he also says there isn`t the a direction or any cohesion at the moment talking about the dire negative football of last season.

‘There needs to be more adventure. They`ve been so negative, there`s no invention, no punch. They need a consistency around the players and the playing style, it`s just so spasmodic.”

This is where we need a younger, more vibrant manager and for us fans and the Club and the players to get back on the same page, have some unity and also some time to get us playing ‘our way` whatever way that is going to be.

Last season was, basically, a waste of money. Even the most die hards called it a chore. Now we can turn that page (a lot of pages today aren`t there!) and hopefully get a direction to go forward with, not just for next season but for the next ten.

And on the manager choice, “Whichever way they go with a new manager, he has got to gel them and work on what they`ve got. They`ve got some very good players but whether they`re getting the best out of them remains to be seen.”

As Sir Dennis says, the manager will have to look at which players are prepared to give 100% … as the former skipper says:

“He needs to find out straight away, who are the players who are with him, who are the players who want to be here and who are the players who don`t. That`s not difficult to find out.”
