Welcoming in form Leicester City to Villa Park for Sunday’s Premier League clash was always going to be a tricky game for Aston Villa and with rumblings of additional injury issues ahead of kick off, it wasn’t only Matty Cash we were missing – talismanic Jack Grealish was also out of the squad.
It was a slow start from us but the first real chance went our way. But Leicester were undeniably on top and they made it count 19 minutes in when Maddison struck. A couple of minutes after that Emi spilled a shot he should’ve held really, and Barnes nipped in to make it 2-0 with barely 25 minutes played.
We finished the half stronger, but Leicester were still on top and the more likely to score again, so we got to see what the half time words of magic could do.
Well, they could do a goal as Bertie got us off to a flying start. 2-1, was a comeback on the cards?
Although there was improvement, Leicester were comfortable for large parts of the second period, but we really turned the pressure up inside of the final 20 minutes, and by rights, we should’ve got the equaliser as we had some very good chances but they just didn’t go our way.
Predictably VAR features and in typical fashion, I don’t even think it reviewed the clear foul on Ollie in the box late on as he was hauled down – but that’s not really a surprise is it.
30 minutes in most thought it would be a cricket score, so sitting here without even a point, feels a little strange.
Onto the next one I guess, but sorry, Ross Barkley should not be starting it after another irrelevant performance like that.

Why aren’t we giving Sanson a chance bringing him on for the last 8 mins is nonsense, it’s almost as though Smith is afraid to drop Barclay. Waste of time buying players to sit on the bench, if he doesn’t pay we will never know what he’s capable of.
This clearly shows that we need to improve the squad and a lot may not agree but personally I would let Barclay go back to Chelsea, let’s be honest he hasn’t done a lot for us and I think we could do better.
Let’s hope that Jack is back for Leeds.

Totally agree Barkley not even mediocre, he sulked off doing a striptease we got better, perhaps the ream realised we can play a bit without Jack. Leeds away will tell
