Smith Begins Life At Aston Villa With A Win – Apparently They Are Possible After All

|

New Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith was in the dugout for the first time today as we welcomed relegated Swansea City to Villa Park.

Plenty of new faces in the dugout saw a largely unchanged team in fairness take to the pitch, although Neil Taylor and Albert Adomah would’ve been delighted to get a start in a reasonably more balanced 4411 lineup.

The match did see the perfect start as on-loan Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham gave us the lead in the eighth minute of the game, but scoring hasn’t been that much of an issue – conceding goals has been more of a concern.

Smith’s start to life at Villa Park sees the return of all three points though and a clean sheet which will significantly boost Orjan Nyland and our defence given our struggles so far.

Although Swansea had opportunities and the better of the game on a stats front, the victory could’ve been more comfortable given the chances that fell our way but most were probably going into the game just looking to ensure we didn’t suffer a defeat, so you have to take the positives.
