A change of month and Aston Villa fans were hoping for a slight change in form when it came to points and results given the tasty run of games we have over the festive period and the fixture list game us the trip up to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.
These days, United are hardly the force they used to be but it wasn’t going to be an easy encounter despite their own struggles, and Jack Grealish gave us the perfect start eleven minutes in as he opened the scoring, but with Tom Heaton being credited with an own goal just ahead of the break, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side got the boost they wanted and took advantage in the 64th minute.
Our heads didn’t drop though and even though the hosts were edging the game, Tyrone Mings had us level pegging at 2-2 just two minutes later.
That was where the scoring ended, so head coach Dean Smith celebrates his new four year contract at the club with a pretty respectful and useful point.
