Smith Confident Of Three Fitness Boosts As Villa Prepare For Spurs

|

Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith has revealed that he’s quietly confident of seeing trio Anwar El Ghazi, Ezri Konsa and goalkeeper Jed Steer return to first team contention ahead of our big Premier League kickoff against Tottenham Hotspur at their new stadium this weekend.

Following our successful (and somewhat unexpected) Championship Play-Off promotion campaign, 2019/20 begins for real down in London on Saturday with Sky Sports screening our return in the evening television slot.

El Ghazi came off with an issue in the second half of our final pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig, and neither Steer nor Konsa were involved in the game as well, but with the buildup to Saturday well underway now, Smith told the Official Site that he believed all three would come into his thoughts for our opening game.

“Ezri has had a bit of niggling thigh. It’s nothing too much to worry about. He should be training Tuesday or Wednesday this week. Jed picked up a heel injury so he didn’t travel to Germany with us. He should be training at the back end of the week, too. Anwar should be fine for the weekend.”

With good competition for places now and plenty of new signings looking to impress the gaffer and get in that starting lineup, there will inevitably be some disappointing faces when he names his side, but if everyone is fit and raring to go that’s only going to be a bonus for us as we go for the first win of the year.
