It’s been an eventful summer at Villa Park with Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith making over ten new captures as we looked to balance the squad out after the raft of departures we saw as players contracts came to an end – but today was what counted as we opened up the 2019/20 Premier League campaign against Champions League Finalists Tottenham Hotspur at their new Stadium.
Plenty of talk ahead of the game was what sort of side would Smith select, but the expectation was it would be Wesley as the lone striker with us looking to have a punch from midfield this year.

I’m not really sure there are any great surprises in the starting XI, but those that missed out will see some chatter. Smith will have seen who has better settled on the training pitches, so it’s open to debate if this side is our true best, but who cares for now.
Bring on the full-time whistle and fingers crossed, our first three points of the year.
