With preparations continuing for our eleventh win on the spin as we make the trip to Elland Road to face off against Leeds United this weekend, the topics of Jack Grealish appears to be on everyone’s lips.

He’s back on the rumour mill in the media this week with the usual (and not so usual) clubs linked with potentially having an interest in him come the summer, but fans are also debating whether he should be given a short break this weekend so we ensure he’s fit and rested for the season extension and the Play-Offs.

Focusing purely on the transfer rumours, speaking to Sky Sports in his pre-game press conference on Thursday afternoon, head coach Dean Smith admitted that should Villa not achieve promotion it would crazy to think that bids wouldn’t come in for Jack, given the campaign he’s had – but equally even without Premier League football next season there are plenty of reasons to be confident he’d still want to stay.

“I would have thought it would be crazy that we didn’t get bids for him but he has committed his future to the football club. He’s got a long-term contract, he’s a Villa fan. He’s captain as well so there’s an awful lot of things for him to stay at this football club for.”

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I like the fact there’s no reference to a release clause.
