Speaking to Sky Sports, via the Daily Star, pundit Paul Merson has suggested Aston Villa should look at Salomon Rondon if they are promoted for next season.
Rondon is on loan at Newcastle United from West Brom and is a powerful unit up front that leads the line well and causes havoc.
However, I don’t think he’d be particularly well suited to our club at all in terms of the way we play.
Similar players like Christian Benteke were a revelation for us but we play different football now, hence the reason our best striker is Tammy Abraham, a quicker, less physical sort of forward.
Indeed, if we can’t keep Tammy past this year, I would imagine we’ll be looking for a similar kind of player to fit into Smith’s playing style – like Neal Maupay did at Brentford.
Rondon is a good player, but he is not a Smith player, and so I don’t think this transfer suggestion should have much looked into it.
