With the rumour mill finally kicking into gear when it came to the availability of Brentford’s England Under 21 defender Ezri Konsa in midweek, Aston Villa were well ahead of the curve and it seems the deal was largely done before journalists even got a sniff of our interest.

The 21-year-old was officially announced as ours earlier today and although he comes in for an undisclosed fee his release fee was believed to be at £12million so he’s clearly a better piece of business compared to the £30million Bristol City were reportedly asking for Adam Webster.
Head coach Dean Smith knows him well having taken him to Brentford in the first place and having impressed seriously at Charlton as he made the breakthrough, he adjusted to the Championship level fine last year and I have no doubts he’ll make the step up into the top flight.
He comes in with over 100 starts to his name despite his tender age, and he was part of the England setup that won the Under 20 World Cup the other summer as well.
Speaking to the Official Site as he signed, Smith was delighted with the business.
“Ezri fits the profile of the type of player we were searching for. It helps that Richard O’Kelly and I have worked with him before. He’s a high-potential player who I believe can step up to the Premier League and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”
