Something In The Air With Barry?

Well, the official site are quoting David O’Leary as telling clubs not to waste their time in bidding for Villa’s left sided midfielder Gareth Barry.

Again, I hope he has told Doug, especially with Tottenham Hotspur linked so strongly.

There is a rumour on the Vital Spurs site that Barry thinks ‘something is in the air’ with regards to a move and yet O’Leary has said that the only players he doesn’t want to be considered for sale are Gareth Barry and Steven Davis.

Barry was voted Players’ Player of the Year and in my humble opinion kept us up with his performances whilst all around him faltered.
O’Leary said: ‘I would fight tooth and nail to keep Gareth. He’s been consistently one of our best players since I’ve been here. But the fact is, thankfully no one has come and asked me about him. Stories saying Tottenham are interested in him are a load of rubbish – they, nor anyone else, has ever came in for him.’

Taken from the Vital Spurs comments – in an article about Carrick:

This is a bit random, so here is as good a place as any to put it. I went to Ascot on Friday with a group of mates and the guy I normally come to WHL with was with me, whilst in line for the cash-point, who was in front of him but Gareth Barry, (who I walk by later), so Rob shook his hand and said, what about coming to Spurs next year, to which Gareth gave a rye smile and said, ‘well there defiantly seems to be something in the air.’ Took his cash and wander off. I must admit it is not the scoop of the year and is only a passing observation, but as the story is only once removed and I was in the building, I thought it was worth a mention. ajm
