Thomas Sorensen is not a happy man. Not only was he taken out, shot and left stranded on the floor, but Wigan were still allowed to go on and via the Mule score.

Sorensen bemoaned the decision by match ‘ref’ Halsey after the game:

‘I thought it was a clear free-kick. Obviously it’s difficult for the referee to see it, but he was there to block me. I got in front of him and as I was going for the ball he pushed me in the back and straight into one of our players. You can’t do anything about it. He didn’t see it, obviously he’s not got eyes everywhere, but it’s just sad that it cost us.’

‘It was frustrating, because nine out of ten times it goes for you and it just seems that they choose the day to not give a foul. That’s the thing that’s annoying. It was a free-kick, but obviously he didn’t see it, but on nine other occasions he would have given it. It was all the more frustrating because we’d played ever so well and created loads of chances. Their goal came at a bad time, but as the game went on and they went down to ten men, we got the goal and should have had more.’

‘It wasn’t to be. It was definitely a game where we should have won easily – even after going one down.’

He also promises more points are coming our way in the last few games of the season ‘We’re confident and we’re looking upwards now.’

Which is nice, albeit a bit late for this season!

I think he is right, he was taken out but I also think he was flapping a bit and probably not where he should have been anyway, he certainly does lack the ability to really command his area at times.

  • I posted this elsewhere but thought it would fit better here now………………….. As for the set-pieces. There has been noises that MON may be looking for a keeper who can dominate hs area. Sorenson is a good shot-stopper but is dodgy on crosses. Perhaps this breeds a lack of confidence in his defence as they feel unease. After the weekend the value of a keeper and a striker were compared. 15-20 mill for a striker and 3-5 mill for a keeper. A world-class keeper can save you 10 points in a season. That’s the difference between nothing – UEFA cup or Champs league. I know Foster has been mentioned but I’d like to aim higher and go for a current international. (Yes, I know Foster is but the current England crop is poor). Any suggestions?

  • I have watched the Incident a couple of times and think Tommy should have tried a little harder to stay on his feet. I may be wrong I think the ref got it right, play on. I do feel he should have booked their keeper earlier for time wasting.

  • Have to agree with col8 on their goal TS semed to jump into the player rather than try and stand up !!!
GazVilla i think we need a keeper who can catch and kick well and not just be a shot stopper.

  • Seen Halsey have far worse games than this, usually at our expence. Tommy needs confidence, with a good run and a couple of clean sheets he may improve.

  • Is the keeper we’re being linked with an ex-celtic player, they have a good keeper ? but there are other clubs to buy from!

  • He needs thumb a lift the****!

Deserves a walk home after the crap decissions he made during the Wigan Game. Never known a ref allow a game to be killed off by a team.

  • I haven’t seen the incident on the t.v., but from what I saw ‘live’ it looked a good goal to me. No one around me was protesting either, so maybe it was just a case of Tommy should have done a lot better. Didn’t notice any of our defenders complaining about the validity of the goal either.

  • I think he realised he had missed the ball and chose to play the polaxed knob, the truth is he fluked his challenge for the ball and tried to save face by dropping like a sack of shytt. Sorry TS your a diver…
