Aston Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has an attack of the green eyed monster because he is having to watch and not compete in the World Cup.

The Denmark No 1 told the official site:

‘Of course it will be hard to miss out on the World Cup. I played in the last one and I’ve played in the European Championships. Every player wants to test himself against the best players and teams in the world and we will not be there, so that is hard to take. But we did not do well enough in the qualifiers and we have to learn the lesson when the European Championship qualifiers begin later this year.’
On the positive side, he says at least he will get an extended break and be fit and ready for the new season with Villa.

Adding: ‘We know we have to improve on last season. To finish where we did was not good and we expect to do a lot better than that. But last season is over now and we have to look forward. We know we can do better and the hard work will begin again when we’re back for pre-season.’

  • Yes its a shame he wont be at the world cup but the up-side is that he’s getting a rest. Hopefully we’ll see the benefits of it in the first few games of the season.

  • yeah agree with every word u put then gaztonvilla. shame for him, but he can concentrate on the new season with u

  • He has had a good season im my opinion, its our defence that has let us down. Check out the Opta Index Stats… He’s statistically 3rd best keeper in the Premiership.

  • Well said DeanoVilla. They can’t seem to just shut up and get on with it. How long before the usual, “European qualification is a realistic possibility” crap starts being spouted again

  • tommos the best shot stopper in the game.. I reckon he’s one of the players who kept us up last season.
Its only the easy stuff he mucks up on!

  • POMPEYMEV, it’s not that he wasn’t picked, it’s that Denmark did not qualify.

  • Why are all of these pompey fellas on our site? Doesn’t that guy with the vest and the big hat run a website for youz?

  • I agree that Tommy S had a pretty good season overall, certainly no complaints from yours truly on that score. Only one game I know, but that stunning display at White Hart Lane had to be seen to be believed. It summed up his qualities as a top notch keep
