Aston Villa have found themselves linked with a number of players so far during the summer transfer window but one rumour that just won’t go away concerns former Academy graduate Gary Cahill.

The now 33-year-old is available on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Chelsea and having been linked with a possible loan move back in the January transfer window he has again featured quite heavily on the summer rumour mill and although there’s not a lot of fresh detail in a recent Birmingham Mail report, the rumour does get a slight lift on the wages front given we now know 2019/20 sees us return to the Premier League and we no longer have any Financial Fair Play concerns.

The report states that Cahill does have a preference to stay in London, so that naturally boosts the claims that the likes of Arsenal and West Ham United are interested in him and I guess until we get Tyrone Mings over the line, and until Cahill signs for a new club, we’re going to be continually linked even if it flies in the face of our new transfer approach.
