This link was bound to return, it has been at least three weeks since there have been any mention of us buying a Spurs striker!

According to both the Birmingham Mail and the Daily Mail, Villa are said to once again be interested in England striker Jermain Defoe.

The striker is said to be unhappy at Spurs after playing only a bit part in the White Hart Lane outfits opening games.

Even with their Bulgarian star striker Dimitar Berbatov injured (and in other reports apparently available for transfer, which would get the Spurs fans totally up in arms, as if they aren’t already judging by Vital Spurs!), Defoe still only featured for just under a quarter of an hour against Derby.

O’Neill has insisted all summer that new arrivals will be brought in to bolster our 20 man squad.

‘We will have the players in – that’s the point. We do not want to be left short. I am trying to look for as much quality as I possibly can for the future of the football club. We will still get the squad in here that is able to contest. I have said all along that I want to build a competitive squad. I hope to do that over the course of time, but certainly I would like to get some players in between now and the transfer deadline because I do not want to suffer the potential of the November-December situation where we just didn’t have the squad last year.’

I could imagine John Carew and Jermain Defoe making a very useful partnership and might take the pressure of young striker Gabby Agbonlahor who seems to have a lot of expectation on very young shoulders. I’m sure Luke Moore will still develop and be a major asset for us as well but JC and Defoe would be a quality first choice partnership. All paper talk mind you!

Villa fans, would you be happy to see Defoe come? Spurs fans, a good move for him or do you want him to remain on the bench at The Lane?
