Young Aston Villa striker Louie Barry has just seen his year get a little bit brighter, as after a stellar month of January, the highly rated young talent was named on the shortlist for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

The 17-year-old is quite the regular for Mark Delaney’s Under 23 group and although January saw him take the headlines following his debut goal against Liverpool in the third round of the FA Cup, he also had a great month at PL2 level, finding the back of the net from the penalty spot in our victory over West Bromwich Albion. He further added to his tally with two from the spot in the match against Norwich City, a game where he also helped himself to a hattrick.

The shortlist is drawn up by the PL’s Football Development Panel after PL2 coaches pick the best performing opposition player after each game, and Barry will now face off against Folarin Balogun (Arsenal), Ethan Bristow (Reading), Kion Etete (Tottenham Hotspur) and Jacob Wakeling (Leicester City) for the monthly gong.
Given he’s sidelined at the minute with an injury, winning this would be another good boost for the lad.
Good luck Louie!
