After seeing his side lose their unbeaten run in the Premiership Martin O’Neill declared ‘We were undone in the first-half’

Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch and Luis Garcia scored for Liverpool before Gabriel Agbonlahor scored what proved to be a consolation goal for Villa. O’Neill told the official site:

‘We were undone in the first-half. Don’t get me wrong, Liverpool would have beaten a lot of top quality sides today and we were definitely second best in the first-half. At least we can say we had a go in the second-half and who knows, but for a terrific save from Sutton’s header, we might have found a way back into it. That’s not to say Liverpool didn’t deserve the three points today, they did. But we can take heart from an improved second-half.’

‘A lot of sides would have buckled after conceding three in quick succession before half-time. But we re-grouped and had a go. That’s the end of the unbeaten run and it had to come eventually. I’m disappointed it came today, but the players know we have to start another unbeaten run now. If I look overall at the first ten games, I think the players have done very well. Now we have to go again and we’ll be looking to bounce back next weekend.’

Next up come Blackburn Rovers who play in Europe during the week, lets hope they are tired when they visit!
