After seeing his side lose their unbeaten run in the Premiership Martin O’Neill declared ‘We were undone in the first-half’

Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch and Luis Garcia scored for Liverpool before Gabriel Agbonlahor scored what proved to be a consolation goal for Villa. O’Neill told the official site:

‘We were undone in the first-half. Don’t get me wrong, Liverpool would have beaten a lot of top quality sides today and we were definitely second best in the first-half. At least we can say we had a go in the second-half and who knows, but for a terrific save from Sutton’s header, we might have found a way back into it. That’s not to say Liverpool didn’t deserve the three points today, they did. But we can take heart from an improved second-half.’

‘A lot of sides would have buckled after conceding three in quick succession before half-time. But we re-grouped and had a go. That’s the end of the unbeaten run and it had to come eventually. I’m disappointed it came today, but the players know we have to start another unbeaten run now. If I look overall at the first ten games, I think the players have done very well. Now we have to go again and we’ll be looking to bounce back next weekend.’

Next up come Blackburn Rovers who play in Europe during the week, lets hope they are tired when they visit!

  • I think we all knew it wouldnt last that long, but im taking no disgrace from losing to a team whos main purpose this season was to win the title. We are learning and improving and given time will be back where we belong. Keep the faith. UTV!

  • Shame it didn’t last 10 games but oh well maybe this is a sign we will start a winning streak instead of a drawing one

  • The second half was different, I have to admit I ticked the box for Villa to lose against Liverpool in the hope I would be proved wrong.
Last time I try that trick.

  • We have been awful for the last 4 games we nearly lost to Fulham who were beaten by Wigan today, wake up and smell the coffee.
We stunk thanks to awful tactics and team selection, and managed a comeback of minor proportions but why?
    Because of Agathe,

  • Knew we were on to a possible loser as not many goals going in – if Moore was fit I think we would have stretched them and taken it to the last minute for a decider….can’t wait till he’s back. I think we’ll be changing alot of the personnle in January..

  • Bridge – Yes please. Joey Barton too. Keane would be nice – he may not be a 20 goaler but we don’t even have a 10 goaler and he surely is just that and more.

  • You`re spot on Belfast Villain we desperately need quality and pace in our left and right back positions. The predictable numbnuts we have at the minute will not allow us to progress. SWP would be the stuff dreams are made of down right flank.Hope Luke ma
