Well we all knew the tribunal to set the compensation fee that Villa would have to pay Norwich was to be concluded this week, and they have now made their decision.

This is a bit of a mouthful…The Professional Football Compensation Committee…have now confirmed their decision with regards to the sum of money that Norwich City should be compensated for following the move of goalkeeper Jed Steer to us back in the summer of 2013.

The level of compensation to be paid amounts to £450,000.

Aston Villa have announced that they are very happy with the ruling of the PFCC and the decision that they have taken following the physical tribunal taking place last week.

‘(We) believe that the guaranteed amount of compensation, as well as the overall structure of the decision, is fair and reflects the points we put before the Committee.’

At the time of joining us, Steer had only made 20 career appearances which included two loan spells at Yeovil Town and Cambridge United.

He only made two appearances for Norwich, both of which coming in the FA Cup, and the bulk of his 20 game experience came from 14 games at Yeovil.

Since joining us, he has gone on to make a further three appearances in both the FA and League Cup competitions.

Norwich’s Official Site has a slightly different take on the ruling though.

They confirm that the PFCC has ruled that ‘Villa must pay a fee rising to a maximum of £1.175million’ for the young goalkeeper.

They say the £450,000 is PLUS VAT and is immediately payable, with an additional sum of £500,000 based on future appearances plus an additional £225,000 should the former England youth international make U21 or senior appearances for his country.

Their Chief Executive David McNally said.

‘We are extremely pleased with the outcome of this matter after a very fair hearing with the Professional Compensation Committee.’

Norwich also now hold a 20% sell on fee on the player should he ever move on from B6.

I’m glad I read the Norwich coverage, nice to know everything.

Next thing you know Grant Holt will be young and hungry.
