Villa newbie Stephen Ireland has told SKY SPORTS that he didn’t know until an hour before the game v Chelsea that he was going to be starting (Marc Albrighton was sick through the night and wasn’t fit to play) but hopes after a frustrating time of being in and out since his arrival from Manchester City that his performance at the weekend might give him the chance to keep his first team place.
Must admit, I thought he was excellent. I must also admit that it doesn’t actually matter what I think, well, not in the bigger scheme of things, I guess it matters what I think when I’m driving because if I thought … right, I’m going to drive through that shop window … I digress…
Anyway, the midfielder said:
‘If I am called on then I need to be ready to go in and if someone else is playing instead of me that is fine because I am part of the team. But hopefully I can play next week and keep building on that. Coming in at the last minute is different. Sometimes it is nice to work on it all week and know that you are starting and sometimes it is nice to be sprung on you as well. But I always prepare well anyway so it was ok to be told I was playing.’
Thought he showed some great touches, once the rest get used to playing with him I think the lad is going to be a major asset, he’ll be a match for any of our squad and might just surprise some of the Villa fans who seem unsure. I’ve also – and I’m not saying this to name drop .. ahem – met him a couple of times and he could not be any further away from some of the press nonsense about him if he tried. He is a quiet, humble and very polite lad, willing to chat, happy to have photos taken etc and also really happy to be at Villa. The press recently were nothing short of … rude … (wow, what a strong four letter word you are using there Feario!) ((don’t talk to yourself Fear))… who the hell cares if his taste in decoration doesn’t match theirs? His wealth doesn’t match theirs either, he is considerable richer and I hope is laughing at those who slated him!
There, that is a perfect example of how to make an article out of just two lines of quotes… Now if only I could get someone to read these things! No, in all seriousness, I get naffed off the way the press try to portray people in certain ways, he is a good lad, it was clear to see he is a loving dad as well, his son was a right little dude and you could tell he adored his dad! Ok, ramble over. Top player, most exciting, can’t wait to see him fully fit, fully settled in and taking his chances…!
