French keeper Steve Mandanda is apparently in talks with Aston Villa over a potential move.

Le Harve’s 22-year-old keeper, who is of Congolese ancestry, was named in the French U21 squad for this summer’s European Championships and is due to fly to Birmingham next week to discuss a move.

Le Havre have also claimed that Mandanda is being tracked by a number of clubs both across France and abroad.

A rough translation of what is on Le Harve’s website is below, although Vital Villa cannot vouch for it being completely accurate.

Le Havre goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, who is highly-regarded by several French and foreign clubs and whose departure seems inevitable, could move to England.

Aston Villa (Premier League), Steve Mandanda and Le Havre are currently in talks aimed at coming to an agreement about the possible move of the keeper.

Steve Mandanda will go to Birmingham next week as part of these discussions.

No denial or confirmation from Villa yet, but the fact this is reported on Le Havre’s official site gives it some weight in my opinion.

Stay tuned for more news as we get it.
