Martin O’Neill has backed the idea of moving away fans from behind the goal in the North Stand and replacing them with the claret and blue faithful.
I believe talks are still ongoing as to where the away fans will eventually be located (upper or lower Witton) but O’Neill is happy to have Villa fans behind both goals, something that should have been done years ago. The away fans should be away from the pitch and out of the way in my ever so humble opinion, the car park would be a good option.
The Villa boss told the official site:
‘That is what we are hoping for. My own belief that behind both goals has been historically and traditionally areas where home fans want to be. That is what I want to do. I think it would be good. I just think it would be better. As a home team you should be able to dictate where you want your home fans. I personally would prefer it because I am always surprised when the area behind the goal is given up for away fans.’
Adding, ‘I just believe that if I had a choice I would prefer the areas behind both goals to be full of home fans – that would be my view of running the stadium.’
