Stiliyan Petrov says that Premiership defenders will have noticed Gabriel Agbonlahor and he’ll be a marked man.

‘Gabby is enjoying himself and he is full of confidence and is trying things. He has been outstanding for us from the start of the season. We hope he can keep going. Will he become a marked man? When you have pace like his, people do start worrying about and teams know already what he can do and may try to do something about it. He has the right sort of attitude and would do his best to cope if that happens.’

He also told the official site that he is feeling far more challenged in the Premiership explaining when he was at Celtic he would go into some games knowing they’d win easily.

‘I would go into the game in that frame of mind as well – but now I have come to Villa there are no easy games. It doesn’t matter who you are playing. Anyone can get a result against anyone else on their day. Every team makes it tough and you have to be on your game and concentrate for 90 minutes. You need to be fit and fully prepared all the time. If you don’t work hard, you will lose. That’s the thing that hit me about this league as soon as I arrived here.’

  • Stan’s comments about being more challenged in the premiership than he ever was up in the SPL probably wont go down too well north of the border, but its an honest appraisal of his move down south. Being down here will obviously improve him as a player, i

  • From what I’ve seen of him so far, he’ll definitely do for me, although it might be a good few months before we really see the best of him.
