After celebrating his first goal for Villa in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on Monday night, Stiliyan Petrov told Villa World TV News

‘It was great to get my goal, but that’s not the main thing. The main thing is that we should have gone on to win this match. I knew as soon as I hit it that I’d got my first goal. I’ve gone very close quite a few times and it has been a frustrating wait. I’ve hit the bar and had shots saved and cleared off the line. But I knew the first goal would come and in the past, when I’ve scored goals I’ve gone on a bit of a run. Hopefully that can happen now. We have some big games coming up and I’d love to get a few more goals.’

A few v Bolton at the weekend will do very nicely thank you very much.

On the game he looked at it as two dropped points adding ‘We know we should have won. We had a few chances to win the game, but we didn’t take them and we were punished in the second-half. That’s what happens in this league and we have to start killing teams off.’

‘We were sitting comfortably in the first-half, but we knew what to expect in the second-half and we didn’t defend as well as we did in the first. We just lost concentration at times and we paid the price. They came out and put us under pressure. They got two quick goals to go 2-1 in front. But once Milan equalised, I thought we could go on to win the game. That didn’t happen and we have another away draw. It would be nice to turn a few of these draws into wins.’

  • Should be a big monkey off his back now, and same goes for Milan. Hoping for big things with those 2 firing.

  • I think that as we progress as a club we’ll get the best out of him as he’s surrounded by better players. If we got more ball to feet to him he could do more damage. Presently we don’t feed him enough. ‘Feed the Stan and he’ll be the man’. Not the same as ‘feed the goat….’ is it!

  • Agree with Gazvilla, he’ll really develop and shine with better players around him. He’s quality, really needed that goal.

  • Lets hope the flood gates open for him now. It was a long time coming, but well worth the wait. Cracking goal.

  • Not so sure about Baros Deano, he didnt look overjoyed when he equalised the other night, his body language is that of a man who is not happy, i think his days are numbered

  • Simple truth for Baros is even if he wants out he has to score. There isn’t much of a market for goal shy strikers. The more he scores the likelier it is he’ll get his dream move. I believe he has the ability, but he doesn’t appear to want to be at VP. Shame, but there you go. If he raises his game he’ll get the attention he wants in order to get the move he appears to be after. If he doesn’t he’ll sit out his contract here looking like a lazy bugger, and then move to Middlesborough probably. His choice. As far as Stan goes, i can’t wait to see more from him. He does appear to have passion for the villa and its great to see.

  • Agree Gazvilla Stan calls for the ball when he has a man on him knowing he can turn him.But players dont give it cos hes marked.
If he wants it give it to him.

  • Baros will be off, but I hope the rumours suggesting Petrov wanting out are way wide of the mark.
