Stiliyan Petrov says he would love to be the new Villa captain after the departure of Gareth Barry and sad retirement of Martin Laursen.

The 29-year-old Bulgarian, who only recently signed a new four year contract at Villa, said it would be an ‘honour’ to lead the team out.

‘The captaincy of Aston Villa is a great honour. It’s a great club and one with a long tradition and fantastic history. It’s great to be a captain and to lead the team out. People say that the captaincy doesn’t make a difference, but it certainly does.’

Petrov won the player of the year at Villa and also on Vital Villa…!
