Stiliyan Petrov has told the official site that despite the 0-0 v Watford on Saturday, the goals will come for Aston Villa.

The Bulgarian international said:

‘What we have to do now is start scoring goals. In the first half we kept the ball better and looked after it, but we created pressure on ourselves by not doing that in the second half. But we got a point and we’re still unbeaten. We have to get or scoring boots on and start scoring goals. I had arguably the best one on the angle when I tried to squeeze it past the keeper but it didn’t happen. I also had the one-two with Juan Pablo Angel, but the keeper came out quickly – if I’d had more time maybe I’d have put it in the net. It doesn’t matter who gets the chances – we’ve got to start putting them in.’

Petrov can almost smell his debut goal, this Wednesday v Scunthorpe would be a good time! ‘I’m not far away from my first Villa goal – I know it will happen and we’re working on it, but it’s just unfortunate that it hasn’t happened yet. I’m not worried about it – the good thing is we’re creating chances and if we do that, we’ll score goals.’

Promisingly he adds ‘I feel I’m developing a good understanding with Juan and Milan too – they’re good players who can hold the ball up, do one-twos and take people on. So when you have players like that, you need to use them.’

He also said they were disappointed not to have won because much like the West Ham game, Villa had the best chances to take all 3 points.
