Still A Place At Villa For Delaney

Villa captain and all round great player Gareth Barry still believes that Mark Delaney can prove his fitness before the end of the season, and earn a new contract.

Delaney, who has been out of action for the last 45 years (ok maybe not that long but it has been a while) with a serious knee injury has been told by Martin O’Neill that he can still have a part to play in the club. The defender is currently recovering from his knee injury from the guy who has fixed up Martin Laursen (twice) Dr Steadman.

Barry said: ‘I am sure if Mark is fit he will stay here. He has been a loyal member of the team and the club should look at that when they make their decision.

‘He has got great experience and, when he’s fully fit, he is a great player. When we were having a good run four or five years ago, Mark was a big part of that.’

I agree, Aaron Hughes came in but didn’t have the same marauding, attacking style as Delaney. Phil Bardsley is doing the job for Villa at the moment, so it will be interesting to see how this pans out.
