There is limited gossip about Villa’s potential transfers in the Sunday press this weekend.
The Sunday Mercury say that Villa are still weighing up a big for Derby County teenager Giles Barnes.
The News of the World claim that Villa have been approached by six clubs for the services of striker Marlon Harewood who arrived from West Ham for around £3.7million in the summer but has regularly not even made the bench and has rarely played for Villa.
Apparently the bids for the 28-year-old have all been for loans for the rest of the season. The paper name Boro, Derby, Watford and Stoke amongst potential suitors.
Surely if he can’t even make the bench when we are so short then he needs to be loaned to get some regular football? There have been some games where we have been screaming out for a different option but he is rarely used. He hasn’t started one Premiership game yet, has been on the bench 15 times and only come on 6 times. He has one league cup goal to his name.
Finally the News of the World say that Matty Taylor is a major target for Gary Megson’s Bolton with Villa, Everton and Middlesbrough also considering a bid. He always looks decent to me and capable of scoring but he can’t hold down a regular place for Pompey at the moment, so why would he take Villa to the next level?
Glad I’m not the one having to make these decisions, I’d be useless.
