As Edwin Starr once said, War… What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again! Well, apparently war is good for one thing and could result in Spartak Moscow 6’3′ defender Martin Stranzl arriving at Villa Park. Why? Well because the News of the World say Villa are ‘locked in a battle’ with Everton, Celtic and Galatasary for the 28-year-old. Makes you wonder really why I didn’t just say we’ve been linked with the Austrian, would have been less painful for all of us but then again, rumours are thin on the ground and professional as ever, I’m padding out the article!? 😉

The Observer repeat the rumour that both Aston Villa and Middlesbrough are interested in Spurs keeper Paul Robinson.

The Mail On Sunday talk about Marlon Harewood’s quotes yesterday (see front page article on Vital Villa) saying he wants to stay at Villa and lists Stoke, Fulham and QPR as would be suitors should he decide to leave.

The News of the World say we’ll grab Steve Sidwell from Chelsea this week for around £5.5million and will make a move for Valencia’s 28-year-old Portugal international right-back Miguel, who seems to be linked daily in one paper or other!

Vital Wigan are carrying a story today saying that Martin O’Neill is interested in teaming up with his former Leicester City player Emile Heskey. Worbo saw a ‘story’ from Tribal with no quotes, substance or meat to the rumour and put pay to the suggestion of the big man moving saying ‘Heskey is too important to the Latics to be allowed to go to Villa, indeed they could be seen as one of our main rivals as we aim to challenge for that UEFA Cup spot next season so why would we sell to them anyway. A fully fit Heskey with a good preseason under his belt is just what we need to lead the line at the JJB and help bed in our new Egyptian superstar Amr Zaki. Hesks, you`re going nowhere.’ That is the key with Heskey, blue nose associations to one side, he spends half his time injured so I hope to goodness we aren’t after him.

Other links today according to the official site, not sure if they mean in the papers or anywhere because if they are counting the gossip sites it really is a stretch! Chelsea’s Shaun Wright-Phillips, Newcastle’s James Milner, Blackburn’s David Bentley.
