Darn it, thought there would be some juicy rumours to keep us going today but apparently not!

The News of the World say that Liverpool’s owners have informed Tom-Jones-Mini-Me Rafael Benitez that they will let Peter Crouch leave for £10million despite Rafa putting a £15million price on his head and rather amusingly Steven Gerrard is being linked with a move to Inter Milan!

The Daily Star have again come up with the link to Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone who is now apparently also wanted by Everton.

Another report claims Villa have made a move for Sampdoria midfielder Christian Maggio. AC Milan and Napoli are also interested.

Other reports suggest Liverpool have (and others say will) put in a new £15m bid for the Villa skipper. Meanwhile the Express and Star say Barry is away on holiday and will decide his future when he returns. This may well be the situation with many players as there isn’t much movement in the transfer window as yet!

The News of the World say Liverpool have had an improved £12m bid for Gareth Barry rejected. This is a bit of old news isn’t it? Thought it was already widely reported that we’ve rejected two bids? They go on to say Benitez had earlier offered £10m and a choice of players in a swap deal but he may have to go as high as £15m to secure the 27-year-old’s services. I don’t think that is quite right either, I don’t think the initial bid was £10m cash and some players, I think it was lower cash wise and the players were of no interest.

The Mirror have repeated the rumour that Manchester City are looking to scupper our deal for Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell.

The Sunday Mercury have yesterdays story that the move for £8million rated right-back Nelson could be back on after he turned down an ‘insulting’ contract offer from current club Benfica.

Finally the Mercury also report that our hopes of signing James Milner from Newcastle have been given a boost as Liverpool did what they did with the first bid for Barry, and offered Newcastle this fringe players who are of no use to anyone in part exchange for the 22-year-old winger. Hmmm, debt starting to bite for the owners of Anfield?
