The rumours continue and the Barry saga remains top of the agenda!

According to the News of the World Gareth Barry’s ‘dream’ move to Liverpool could be left in tatters as Liverpool need to sell Xabi Alonso first and he has said he wants to stay at Anfield, which will please the supporters if not the manager as I’ve seen many of them saying they’d prefer him to stay than them buy Barry!

However The Times say Liverpool will make one final bid, their fifth, this week in a take it or leave it £16million cash offer. I think I’d take it to be honest! Barry has no future at Villa now he has made it clear he doesn’t want to play here anymore!

According to the press Arsenal are also watching what is going on and Wenger has hinted he has ‘one’ player in his sights after a few sales recently. The Times say ‘It is believed that Barry would jump at the prospect of a switch to the London club.’

If Liverpool don’t get Barry they’ll go for Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing according to the News of the World, a player also linked with us at stages through this summer.

The Sunday Express are repeating the link to Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson who is stalling over a signing a new contract. Everton and Liverpool are also linked.

Another one in the News of the World and another repeat. Robert Green is apparently interesting Villa as the keeper isn’t happy with his current contract at West Ham.

It is the NofW day today! They say that we’ve bid £5million for for 6’7′ giant Serb striker Nikola Zigic. Valencia have apparently confirmed they have received a bid from an English club. Well, there you are then, proof indeed! Sporting director Juan Sanchez said: ‘The player and his agent know about the offer and we expect them to make a decision in the coming days.’ He is also linked to Fulham, Manchester City and Bolton.

According to Vital Wigan: Paul Scharner is being linked today with a move to Aston Villa as Martin O Neill looks to replace Olof Melberg. They say, ‘Scharner was a revaltion when moved into the back four last season and rightly won last season’s fans player of the season vote.’
