With centre half Tommy Elphick linked with a move to Sunderland the other week, it’s now being suggested that Ross McCormack is a target as well.

Both players are deemed to be surplus to requirements with recent strengthening putting Elphick’s future in doubt, and McCormack and ‘gate gate’ still go hand in hand when it comes to his future.

Both players have been left out of the squad that will travel to Germany and the Birmingham Mail reported on Saturday that Sunderland saw their omission as a green light and they will now progress both of their tentative enquiries on the players and look to get a deal done.

Gary Gardner and Aaron Tshibola have also been omitted for the Cup of Traditions and Arminia Bielefeld ties and that has sparked doubts about their own futures.

Elphick continues to be linked with Birmingham, so we’ll just have to see if Sunderland’s reported interest becomes a firm one.

  • It would be a brave move for anybody to take on McCormack, obviously got an awful attitude problem, even after throwing him a lifeline.

  • I think it would be a good bit of business if we offload these two. Ok, we’d have to take a hit on them but if we could get £9m for the two, I’d be happy.

  • Get rid of both. Elphick, nice guy but shocking defender, Mc Cormack’s best days seem to be behind him. Unfortunately, Gardner has to go too, just too brittle, and we now have plenty of other options.
