Surely Mellberg Will Leave Villa?

Olof Mellberg has echoed what the vast majority of Villa fans think: “No excuses, we’ve not been good enough this year.”

Mellberg will surely be one of the players looking for a Villa Park exit in the summer as he must see his career is slowly ebbing away at perennial underachievers Aston Villa. Things will not improve next season unless miracle of miracles we get new owners and Ellis has already said that O’Leary will have to sell before he can buy. So, bye-bye to any quality we have left, hello to players from the Championship and relegated teams.

He told the official site: ‘It leaves us struggling and still not safe but as far as big decisions in the summer go, that’s out of our hands. We’ve got to try to lift our game overall for next season because it’s been disappointing. We have been unlucky in a few games but in the end our league position doesn’t lie. At the start of the season, we felt confident we’d finish higher than last season. There’s no reason why we can’t look at thinking the same way for next season because we’ve got some really good players here. We know what we can do so that’s why it’s so disappointing.’

Adding:

‘We strengthened the squad with Milan Baros and Wilfred Bouma, plus some young players have come through. ‘We were able to build on what we had the season before and only Thomas Hitzlsperger and Darius Vassell left. So on paper the squad is stronger and that’s why it’s so disappointing and we’ve definitely got to look to improve for next season.’
