Former Villa and Rovers striker Chris Sutton has said that Villa are the favourites in the League Cup semi final double header against Blackburn.

The current manager of Lincoln, who incidentally has raided our reserve squad for a quite a few players so far this season, spoke at length to the Official Site explaining how he found the club in his brief period with us, his thoughts on Blackburn and ultimately who his money would be on in the semi finals.

He explains that when he joined Villa, Monnys job was simply to stabilise the club and start building the foundations of a team that could challenge the Top 4. Given how close we have come the last few years Sutton believes is tantamount to the progress that has been made, and whilst we still have ‘consistency’ issues he knows sorting that out will be on Monnys agenda.

‘When I’ve been into Villa subsequently since I’ve left, there’s been a good feeling around the place and it’s important that players go into that healthy environment.’

He describes the upcoming clash between both former clubs as potentially a ‘fantastic tie’ and points to their win over Chelsea in the quarters as proof that Blackburn are up for some silverware (even if we buggered their FA Cup hopes) this season.

‘I think on balance you would make Villa favourites but Villa will find it hard to beat them.’
