After four straight defeats on the spin for head coach Steven Gerrard, Aston Villa fans had two things to celebrate this weekend. Not only did travelling Villans see the first team keep a valuable clean sheet and pick up a point from our trip to Leicester City to end that run (and avoid a Dean Smith sackable five on the trot). But loanee Academy graduate Aaron Ramsey also scored his first professional senior goal for Cheltenham Town.
The highly rated 19-year-old midfielder made the switch to Whaddon Road back in the January transfer window, and since then he has gone on to make nine starts and five substitute appearances for them, and he is impressing people.
Cheltenham unfortunately lost 2-1 to Bolton Wanderers and Ramsey’s decent effort was only a consolation on the day, but it’s a good sign that his confidence has now grown to the point he can create an end product from almost nothing – particularly as he came on as a sub three minutes before he scored.

Ramsey did, of course, score for our Under 21 set up in the EFL Trophy clash with MK Dons back in October, but this one goes down as his professional first – and it should be the first of many more – so the remainder of the spell at Cheltenham should now be very interesting given the confidence boost he’ll have got from that.
