With the cancellation of Tuesday evening’s friendly against Arminia Bielefeld owing to adverse weather, Steve Bruce may now send a few seniors to Friday evening’s Tamworth friendly.

With last night’s friendly called off late on in the day when the referee inspected the pitch and found it to be waterlogged owing to the heavy rain in the area, the Birmingham Mail speculated yesterday that with one game less for our pre season preparations, Bruce had turned some thoughts to sending a few seniors on the trip to The Lamb for what was originally an Under 23 announced fixture against Tamworth.

The game on Friday kicks off at 7.30pm and Villa of course entertain Watford on Saturday afternoon in the inaugural Graham Taylor Trophy but with the expectation that Arminia Bielefeld would see a number of players get 45 minutes each, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see four or maybe five seniors make the trip with the youngsters now where they’d get a good hour if not more allowing Bruce the freedom to play with his substitutions against Watford knowing some had already received the additional boost of game time.

With Rushian Hepburn-Murphy returning to fitness and getting a run out on Tuesday afternoon for the Under 23’s it’s expected he’ll be in the squad again to build him up more quickly after his spell out.

  • Not been a very good pre season really. Not the club’s fault about the heavens opening tho! But looks like some work and re thinking needs to go into next summers pre season.
