Stuart Taylor has told the official site he is determined to fight for his place after pulling off several high quality stops to save Villa’s blushes against Liverpool on Saturday.

The former Arsenal man told the official site:

‘Who knows what’s going to happen now? There’s me, Thomas and Scott Carson here now and I don’t know what’s going to happen. The manager has decided to bring Scott Carson (on loan from Liverpool) in, because of the injury to Thomas, but I played on Saturday and I’d like to play next week. I’m in the football business to play football. I don’t want to sit on the bench and I’d like to play next week at Newcastle. But obviously it’s the manager’s choice and I respect that. I’ve just got to get my head down and keep working.’

He also says it is a ‘hard job’ as the No2 at a club but feels he played well enough against Liverpool making some ‘decent saves’.

Meanwhile Scott Carson says he is ready!

‘I’m delighted to be here. Obviously I know a few players here from the England set-up and having spoken to the manager, I’ve got good vibes about Villa. There’s a buzz about the place and I can’t wait to get started.’

‘I’ve come here because I want to push for regular first team football. I wasn’t happy sitting on the bench at Liverpool. Hopefully I’ve come here to give the manager something to think about and hopefully force my way into the team. Hopefully I can play my part in a big season and help Aston Villa get into Europe.’

  • voted Taylor, after that performance it would be unfair in my eyes to drop him. Petrov on the other hand should be dropped for being inaffective.

  • taylor must keep his place, carsons time will come, no need to rush him in just yet. one of my mates is a gooner and still maintains he was suprised wenger let him go after a string of very good performances for the gooners. after saturday he has earnt his plce for the geordies. good luck tayls.

  • as for petrov, the honeymoon period is over, get a right back and get gardener in midfield, he looks sooooooo good.

  • why did we sign him, what a waste of 2 mill in wages, he’s no better than what we already have! could and should have used that money on someone we needed, *****in rubish

  • Three goalkeepers, all much of a muchness in my opinion. Carson hasn’t come to warm the bench though. Neither he nor Rafa would have agreed to such a deal.

  • Taylor deserves to keep his place. “Competition for places” means exactly that. A player needs to believe that playing well will be rewarded by keeping a place in the team. If Taylor is dropped this weekend it shows that it’s not about performances which would surely undermine the whole “Competition for places” thing.

  • Carson should start on saturday, altho Taylor played well against Liverpool he did look vulnerable coming for crosses and thats exactly what ur gonna have to deal with against an allardyce side!
