With Aston Villa marking the passing of Graham Taylor in last weekend’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, a special tribute is also planned for the Villa Park pitch when we host Preston North End this weekend.

With two spells at Villa between 1987-90 and 2002-03, Taylor’s rebuild of the club in that first period before leaving for the England national job is the stand out – winning promotion back to the old First Division in 1987/88 and finishing second in the top tier back in 1989-90.

GT’s wife Rita has confirmed that the family will attend as special guests of the club for the game, and the club have also sent invites to former players who worked with Taylor during his time with us and they will be pitchside for the minutes applause ahead of kick off.

Steve Staunton, our last skipper to work under GT, will lay a wreath on the centre circle after both teams have taken to the pitch and a special matchday programme will be paying tribute to our former gaffer and include memories from former players and staff who worked with him.
