Alan Hutton will not be offered a new contract, according to the Mirror.

The former Scottish international was due to hold talks with the club about extending his stay on Friday, but they were postponed.

Steve Bruce insisted that the player should be given a new deal whatever league we would be playing in next season, but it’s now likely the 33-year-old will move on to another club. Fans on Twitter had differing views on the decision:

In light of the club’s cashflow crisis and suspension of CEO Keith Wyness, it’s no surprise that talks with our no.21 were called off.

There are certainly more pressing concerns at the moment, but it will be disappointing to see the “Scottish Cafu” leave after what was a very good season.

The full-back has made 168 appearances for us during a seven-year stay at Villa Park. If he does depart, I’m sure every fan will want to wish him well for the future.

  • The wake up call is too late coming, AVFC,are a basket case, thanks to terrible
Ownership and joke managers. Lessons of Lerner continued with Xia. Hutton and
many more are still bankrupting the club. ( only the fans and the academy players
are the way back) or is this the final end of AVFC. Bruce added to this calamity with
Dads army mercenaries. . THE BALLS UP to end all etc

  • I for one am loving all the bad news coming out of Villa it’s about time they got some realisation about what things are. I’m basking in their misery good riddance to bad rubbish for years we have to put up with crap from their fans telling us that we are in the shadow well the only shadow they’re casting is that of despair. For years we have to put up with them can the mickey out of Us and our money problems and C Young is on the other foot and we’re loving it and we’re going to rip Holts you lot time for payback keep Right On.

  • Heart broken, for fans ,club .The World Cup means nothing to me.Pray God AVFC can
    find Salvation by divine help

  • I’d like to see a young team next season, hard to see the wood for the trees right now with all the other stuff going on. But must admit, of a lot of experienced players, if the money was there (!) I’d have kept Alan for his influence and attitude.
