Vital Chelsea published the following article yesterday, written by techlec2000.

As an owner of the network, I’ll take the liberty of using here!

Lurking in the same Evening Standard story that cites Gary Cahill as new captain, is a small piece stating that Antonio Conte offered the chance of another year at the football club.

He said ‘John is a big loss. Last season he didn’t play a lot but his role was very important on and off the pitch. He told me that he wanted to play regularly.’

It seems JT`s desire to keep on playing meant he had to go in search of first team football elsewhere. As we know, he chose to go to Aston Villa where he has been recently named as captain.

Conte went on ‘There was a possibility to stay with us because I was very happy to have another season with John. But I respected his choice. In his heart and his head he wanted to continue to play, but to play regularly, not once (in a while)…or to stay in the squad.’

Conte believed Terry headed to Villa to avoid meeting Chelsea, but as he surmises and we know ‘we have to hope that we don’t meet in the FA Cup or League Cup!’

The Birmingham Mail also picked up on the quotes

As you know, JT has been made Aston Villa captain replacing Chester.

The signing has been overwhelmingly popular amongst the majority, as our poll results showed.

  • Yes he does – puts many at the club to shame quite frankly. I’ve never been a fan of Terry’s particularly, but he’s a quality player and a proven winner. If all he bring to the party is that winning mentality, we’ll have done well. I hope he has a bigger

  • Yup, the press he’s built up over the year made it difficult to be a fan didn’t it? But if he can influence our team enough for promotion then great!

  • That’s a fantastic sign that he made the move for football first and foremost. I haven’t often had the opportunity to say fair play Terry, but this is one of those times. Hopefully we have plenty more opportunity in the coming months aswell.

  • Like JPA never been a big fan of JT when he was on the other side, but it has to be a great
signing. In particular I am looking forward to seeing Nathan Baker improve playing with
him. Baker, for me, has tremendous potential but makes mistakes due to h

  • JT is class there is no doubt about that.He could have stayed at Chelsea for another season, well in reality he knew his playing time there would have been extremely limited. He has sought out pastures new,Captain of Villa or Club Captain,I think the latt

  • @LeHane – If he was only after a payday he could have stayed at Chelsea, gone to Bournemouth or moved abroad. By the sound of it we were far from the biggest offer he had on the table.
