Vital Chelsea published the following article yesterday, written by techlec2000.

As an owner of the network, I’ll take the liberty of using here!

Lurking in the same Evening Standard story that cites Gary Cahill as new captain, is a small piece stating that Antonio Conte offered the chance of another year at the football club.

He said ‘John is a big loss. Last season he didn’t play a lot but his role was very important on and off the pitch. He told me that he wanted to play regularly.’

It seems JT`s desire to keep on playing meant he had to go in search of first team football elsewhere. As we know, he chose to go to Aston Villa where he has been recently named as captain.

Conte went on ‘There was a possibility to stay with us because I was very happy to have another season with John. But I respected his choice. In his heart and his head he wanted to continue to play, but to play regularly, not once (in a while)…or to stay in the squad.’

Conte believed Terry headed to Villa to avoid meeting Chelsea, but as he surmises and we know ‘we have to hope that we don’t meet in the FA Cup or League Cup!’

The Birmingham Mail also picked up on the quotes

As you know, JT has been made Aston Villa captain replacing Chester.

The signing has been overwhelmingly popular amongst the majority, as our poll results showed.
