Thankful For A Point As Villa Waste Another Golden Opportunity – Match Stats

With Aston Villa wasting two opportunities to lift ourselves out of the relegation zone following the return of Premier League football into empty stadiums and odd atmospheres, today saw us make the trip up to St James’ Park to face off against former manager Steve Bruce.

Going into the game, we were only one point off safety and we simply had to be at the races, as most expected Newcastle to be as, given Bruce would love this win after how his time with us, unfortunately, came to an end.

We certainly started brightly and the only thing missing from the first half was a couple of deserved goals from the chances we created. Newcastle offered little, but that all changed second half and we were hanging on – until they inevitably took the lead.

We finally went two up top and it helped turn the game back in our favour and a late Mohamed Elmohamady effort got us a deserved point – but it should’ve again been all three if we’d made it count.

Is a point enough, no idea – I’m not sure what to make of that, other than another dropped two points.
