On Tuesday evening, the bulk of the first round EFL Cup ties took place, and thankfully Aston Villa weren’t involved this time following our return to the Premier League.

There were some interesting ties on the night, but unfortunately, for those fans hoping for a bit of Derby action in the second round, West Bromwich Albion crashed out to Millwall and Birmingham had already lost 3-0 to Portsmouth.

Such is life.

Having been drawn against Crewe Alexandra, plenty of fans see it as the typical banana-skin tie for us, but there were a number of fans who were looking forward to seeing a few of our newbies (and remaining youngsters) get a proper introduction when this tie cycles around in the fixture list.

Vital Villa Crewe Alexandra thread. It should be a good tie for us really, and I certainly can’t see head coach Dean Smith taking this one lightly, even if there are significant changes to the starting XI.

Over the summer we built a squad with options, so let’s see them.
