With plenty of Aston Villa fans seeming to have mixed thoughts as to our overall performance in the weekends friendly with Shrewsbury Town, one player who did take the clear opportunity to shine was summer arrival Ezri Konsa.
With strong praise for the 21-year-old from head coach Dean Smith following our trip to the United States, we again saw the gaffer get match minutes into multiple players and a solitary effort from Scott Hogan was enough to return the win.
Cool as you like from @ScottHogan_9. ????#AVFC pic.twitter.com/tJaVrY4tsh

Having joined the club from Brentford for £12million over the summer, the England youth international lined up against Tyrone Mings for the opening 45 minutes of the game and there were certainly some strong messages of praise for the young lad as fans took to social media to react to his efforts and his own words of praise for the travelling supporters on the day.
So were you. By far my favourite on pitch today. Never seen someone so cool, calm and collected when in possession. I’m so happy you’ve joined the team. X

Class today, keep it up and you and mings could be our partnership

Absolute class pal. Nice and calm, a defender who’s a footballer. Lovely to see down the villa again. #avfc

Very solid performance, good to see you in a villa shirt.

It’s going to be interesting to see who gets the nod for that spot alongside Mings when the season begins for real, but Konsa should certainly be a solid addition given the quality he’s displayed over the last few years, and he’s far from the finished product.
