It’s been a long old summer for Villa fans with events off the pitch and despite a semi-reasonable start to the campaign itself, those wheels seem to have fallen off the bus with our more recent run of form culminating in the weekend’s heavy defeat to Sheffield United in a game that can have few positives other than Anwar El Ghazi opening his goal account up for the club.

Those are debates for elsewhere though, and we have been active in loaning out a number of players – but with a fair few deals going through late on – this is likely to be a trimmed down recap as simply put a number of players won’t yet have even made their debuts at their new clubs.

In no particular order and subject to my natural caveat – apologises if I’ve forgotten anyone – here’s the state of play in pitch time given the opening month (and this weekend) or the new 2018/19 campaigns.

Jed Steer headed to Charlton Athletic for a season-long loan spell with manager Steve Bruce hoping to see him get a solid season of games under his belt without injuries reappearing.

He is yet to debut for them.

Tommy Elphick made a late, and somewhat nonsensical loan out to Hull City on deadline day given our options at the heart of the defence. Given the lateness of the move, he was not involved this weekend.

Easah Suliman went Dutch and made the switch out to Eredivisie side FC Emmen. He’s yet to debut for them either.

Mitch Clark capped an impressive pre-season with the first team and our Under 23s but bagging a loan out to Port Vale. The 19-year-old Welshman has hit the ground running at Vale Park and has four starting appearances to his name so far.

Jordan Lyden was another late deadline day move and he headed to Boundary Park for a spell with Oldham Athletic. He’s yet to feature for the side but he remains with them until January.

Aaron Tshibola renewed his acquaintance with Steve Clarke up at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock after a semi-successful spell in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign. He made his second bow for them in the weekend’s clash against Aberdeen.

Gary Gardner made the switch across the City to join up with brother Craig at Birmingham City. He has now made five appearances for them.

Andre Green headed to Fratton Park just ahead of deadline day last week but he was an unused substitute at the weekend as they faced Plymouth Argyle as he continues to settle in at Portsmouth. He’s with them until January.

Kelsey Mooney also made a late deadline day move to Cheltenham Town for his first taste of senior football. The loan is only until January, to begin with, and he started on the bench at the weekend for their clash with Colchester, making his debut as a second-half substitute.
