A short time ago this evening, Aston Villa announced a small piece of news that would be hugely applauded by the fanbase – Ross McCormack has finally overcome his gate problem and he has now departed the club permanently.

Having been one of Roberto Di Matteo’s big money signings back in August 2016 for a reported £12million from Fulham, the 32-year-old made a total of 14 starts, with ten further showings from the bench, returning three goals.

He quickly fell out of favour and I guess the true reasons will never be known, but issues that we are aware of like ‘gate-gate’ certainly didn’t help things, and he spent a fair bit of time away from us on loan spells with Nottingham Forest, Melbourne City, Central Coast Marriners and Motherwell – only his spell at Marriners can be considered a success.

He returned from Motherwell quickly after the spell was arranged with talk of an injury, but we heard no more until his agent Tweeted out.

The less said about them the better methinks!

Unsurprisingly, with thoughts on McCormack’s spell largely unprintable, that sparked the expected reaction but whether or not it was linked to tonight’s news that he is no more at Bodymoor is open for debate.

A fantastic move by the club and the reaction was again understandable.

Erm, by then I guess.
