With all eyes on Good Friday’s Championship clash between Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers at the University of Bolton Stadium, fans could be forgiven for missing that Jack Grealish was awarded the Goal of the Month gong for his effort against Derby County.

The game back on March 2 at Villa Park saw Jack joined on the scoresheet by Conor Hourihane (brace) and Tammy Abraham as we stormed to a comfortable 4-0 victory with all the goals coming in the opening 45 minutes.

Having been named on the Championship shortlist after he finished Glenn Whelan’s delivery with some aplomb, Grealish took the award with a whopping 59% of the public vote.

Quoted by Sky Sports Jack said of the honour.

“I’m honoured that supporters have chosen my goal to win Goal of the Month especially considering there was so much competition. It’s a goal where everything seemed to click – it was a great ball in from Glenn Whelan and I couldn’t have wished to hit a sweeter volley. It’s definitely one I’ll remember for a long time.”

Having recovered from injury, the 23-year-old has continued to go from strength to strength this season, notching (I’m writing pre-Bolton) five goals and five assists in 28 games so far, and now he’s got the captain’s armband, his performances have stepped up another gear.

Fans were rightly delighted for him.
