John Carew has dealt Villa a massive blow after picking up a calf injury against Everton.

The Hulk will now miss the vital games against Blackburn (away on Saturday) and Wigan (at home on Monday).

Martin O’Neill said of the Norway international:

‘Big John is going to be out. He has picked up a calf injury which is a big blow to us. A scan yesterday morning came up with something and he will miss the Easter programme. He will definitely be a loss to us. We will have to change our game. We will have to change our strategy in some aspects, of course.’

‘But these are Premiership games and we have got to get on with it. We have options, and obviously without John we will adjust our game. Carew’s absence means Luke Moore and Juan Pablo Angel are on standby to face Blackburn at Ewood Park tomorrow. I haven’t even thought about it because the news has only just reached me about Carew. It opens the door for someone anyway.’

Gulp, games we need something out of and we are losing the only player who has looked like scoring.

Striker/wingerAshley Young (dead leg) and defender Gary Cahill (side injury?) are also rated as doubtful and Liam Ridgewell is also injured.

are now major doubts ahead of the trip to Blackburn, while Liam Ridgewell also looks set to miss out.

O’Neill said “They’ll both travel, but I would have to say they’re looking pretty doubtful at this moment. Liam Ridgewell also has a foot injury that forced him out of the reserves on Tuesday, so we’re got one or two problems. But it’s up to us to handle that.”

I might go and cry for a while now!
