The Villa Summer Transfer Thread – Part 1

So here we go again. The transfer window opens at midnight tonight as the season has come to an end. Martin O’Neill took a fair amount of flack last summer for promises that some say he didn’t deliver. This summer has to be different and I’m positive it will be. He has now cleared the decks of the players he doesn’t want, assessed what he does want and now MUST know Villa have to spend – and spend big – to push on.

MON told the official site after finishing 6th this season: ‘We’ve ended the season with 60 points and in most years that would have been enough to qualify automatically for Europe. Last season we would have walked it and even seventh place got automatically into Europe 12 months ago. ‘So from that aspect it’s disappointing but it shouldn’t mask the fact that we’ve come on leaps and bounds from last season.’

Adding: ‘To do it with the smallest squad in the Premier League has made it particularly impressive but that’s something we would want to address in the summer.’

So here it is, the summer long, Aston Villa transfer thread. Last year we got through over 3000 or more article comments and as the summer went on, the anger grew. Lets hope this time we’ll get through more and by the end of it all be overjoyed!

Add all the rumours you hear, talk about the targets you want to see us go for, or just generally shoot the breeze (note, a license for shooting said breeze is required).

Over to you Martin.
