Plenty of huffing and puffing over the last two days about the new Villa badge but to be honest, the poll we ran shows that only 13% think it is ‘totally awful’ and most seem to think that although it isn’t the best, it is better than the old badge. 15% said the badge was fantastic. 29% that it was an improvement on the last one. 29% voted that it could have been better. 4% said it was average at best and 13% that it is totally awful. That left 10% needing more time for it to grow on them, not literally you understand? End of really, it is now our badge and once on the new Nike shirts and worn by top players, I’m sure it will be accepted by most! In our forum poll things are a little closer with 49.43% liking it, 41.38% not liking it and 9.2% feeling indifferent!

Martin O’Neill is hoping Villa defender Olof Mellberg will have signed a new deal before the season ends. The Villa boss said: ‘His agent wants me to get back in contact and between now and the end of the season I’d be hoping to sit down and sort something out. Like anything else, if the player has a notion he wants to stay, then fine, but if he doesn’t want to then there’s not a great deal you can do about it. If he playing well and you want him, then he’s in a good position, if he’s playing poorly and you’re not that bothered, then the club’s in a better position.’ Full article: Olof Mellberg close to new deal

Aston Villa’s CEO Richard FitzGerald says there is money to spend in the summer and plenty of it! The board and Richard have already stated Champions League is their aim and with the backing of owner and chairman Randy Lerner, despite the fact we have a long way to go, we should now at least stand a chance! Villa chief executive Richard FitzGerald has declared himself a builder. Martin O’Neill has spoken about how pivotal Villa captain Gareth Barry is comparing him to Chelsea’s (Fat) Frank Lampard and Liverpool’s (disappears for half a game) Steven Gerrard. Pah, ours is much better, he gives 100% game in and game out! O’Neill told avfc.com: ‘He’s the heartbeat of this football club. Heartbeat is the operative word – he’s got fantastic heart, but he’s got great ability and that showed on Saturday. I just thought it was an immense performance.’ Full article: Gareth Barry – Heartbeat of Villa

Villa will play Toronto FC in July. Think that is on the Isle of Wight, I might be wrong though. The Claret and Blue army will be off to play Canadian team Toronto FC on July 25.

Martin O’Neill is looking at options for 26-year-old midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba who has been on loan at Burnley. The Djemba twins to move?
